PAT testing is the commonly used term for in-service testing of electrical applianced. Any electrical appliance that is plugged in, or permanently wired to an outlet by a flex, may need PAT testing.

If you have an electrical appliance that is used by your employees, can be used by the public or forms part of your rental property then Portable Appliance Testing is essential for you.

Why should you have your appliances PAT tested?

  > To comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 (this makes PAT testing mandatory by law).

  > To minimise the risk of fire and injury.

  > To comply with the Electricty at Work Regulations.

  > To comply with the provision and use of work equipment regulations.

  > To satisfy you insurance requirements.

  > To meet the requirements of your letting agent.

  > Forms an essential part of your fire risk assessment.

PAT testing is available at £25 per hour plus VAT. As a guide, I can normally test 10 to 15 items per hour depending on what they are and subject to minor repairs such as fuse changes and plug rewires etc. Please note that this is a very popular service so book early to make sure your appliances are tested on time.

Last year the HSE figures showed 24 992 fires, 998 shocks and 30 fatalities were caused by faulty electrical equipment!
